The Pros and Cons of Telecommuting

Telecommuting is quickly becoming the job scenario of the future. Thanks to internet innovations, more and more jobs have now become less of a necessity to be done at work, are now done within the confines of their employee’s very homes. Jobs of all sorts are also now commonly outsourced to different countries. More and more people are beginning to see its many benefits, and are using its certain disadvantages to improve themselves.

However, just what are the pros and cons of telecommuting? Let me give you one of each.

Pro: You control your own time and place of work. No more wrestling with the snooze button, no more rushing off to work, no more hurried lunches, and definitely no more transportation time. You can work at any time of the day, anywhere you want. You can even work in your ‘jammies if you wish, as long as you get the job done on time.

Con: No more fun office banter or office camaraderie. Often, we forget the fact that working in an office brings you in contact to a different set of characters and personalities that we interact with on a daily basis. Beating the deadline for a critical project, eating out together, the pantry hijinks … This all turns into distant memories as you work alone in your home. *sad trombone*

The Oatmeal drew a comic strip on this, so I recommend you check it out for a few chuckles.
